All About Kindergarten

Please label the following supplies with your student's name

• Large backpack, zip style
• 1 plastic pencil box (8.5" L x 5.75" W x 2.5" H)
• Fiskars scissors, metal blade with rounded end. Please do not send scissors with plastic blades.
• Set of 8 watercolor paints (Prang, Crayola or Artista brands only)

The following are community supplies and do not need to be labelled

• 2 one-inch white three ring view binders (with plastic sleeve on cover)
  • Please remember not to label these binders!
• 4 boxes of Crayola regular size crayons, 24 packs only
• 12 count box of regular sized #2 pencils, please sharpen at home
• 2 bottles of 4 oz. Elmer's Glue-All (no "school glue," gel or colored glue)
• 10-12 Elmer's glue sticks
• 2 sets of 10 Crayola thick point washable classic color markers
• 1 box of 3 ounce paper cups for getting drinks at the classroom sink
• 1 box of Kleenex
• 1 bottle of hand sanitizer
• 2 containers of Clorox wipes (3 pack perferred)
• 1 box of plastic bags
  • Last names A-M: gallon size
  • Last names N-Z: quart size
• Classroom donation: $10 to cover the cost of three classroom celebrations
• Tennis shoes: must be worn to school on physical education days
  • We recommend Velcro shoes if your child does not yet tie their shoes.

Please bring supplies with you when you come for Open House in the fall. You can also purchase a rest mat and headphones for your child at this time.

The Fernbrook staff can't wait to welcome your child to kindergarten!

On Tuesday, Aug. 16, we would like to meet your child for a short one-on-one assessment to help us develop our class lists for the fall. Please consider signing up for a 10-15 minute incoming kindergarten assessment with a kindergarten teacher!

Our district's Early Childhood Screening is required by the state and should be completed prior to a child turning five years old. The screening is free and includes a developmental check of vision and hearing, height and weight, immunization status, large and small muscles skills/development, thinking, language and communication skills and social and emotional development. 

If your student has not yet been screened, please be sure to schedule an appointment prior to the beginning of the school year. If your student has been screened in another district, that is sufficient to satisfy this requirement.

What is ParentVUE?

ParentVUE is a personal online account for parents and guardians to access grades, attendance, contact information, scheduling for parent/teacher conferences and more. An access code to set up your ParentVUE account can be obtained by email from the school administrative assistant; please send your student's name, grade, and date of birth as well as your own name and address. Since the access code gives access to personal information, it can only be shared with the parent/guardian on student records.

What is Peachjar?

Peachjar is Fernbrook's online newsletter. Every Wednesday it is updated with the latest information about events and happenings in our school and community. Check it out under "Family Access" on the Fernbrook website. 

What is SmartSchoolK12?

SmartSchoolK12 is your family's online account to monitor and add funds to lunch accounts, register and pay for extracurricular activities and pay and review school fees. Your account can be created directly in SmartSchoolK12; find it under "Family Access."

Breakfast

Breakfast items are distributed daily to any student at Fernbrook who would like them. If you have questions about breakfast or lunch, please email our kitchen manager, Ms. Lynda Henderscheid. 

Free & Reduced-Price Lunch

Please visit SmartSchoolK12 (which can be found under the "Family Access" tab at the top of each website page) for questions about Free & Reduced-Price Lunch. Applications can also be found there; please note that forms submitted electronically will be processed quicker than those that are printed. 

• Information about bussing will come from the district transportation office in August.

• Information will include pick up time, drop off time, and bus stop location.
